VERTICAL GRIDS
This project in Xiamen explores the vertical multiplication of the ground floor by intertwining the architectural and public urban realms.
This highrise building located in the central district of a masterplan for Xiamen’s Binhai Area creates a multi-level, three-dimensional cluster of vertical and horizontal elements that allows for office space, commercial strips, civic and cultural facilities, and public space and landscape to articulate and interact in space.
Expressing a minimalist formal structure, this building plays out a mute expressiveness that transcends scales to operate both at the level of its details and its massing. In this operation, the spatial qualities of the building layout are emboldened, and the exuberance of the local natural landscape and the local topographical silhouette is highlighted.
