HOUSING
WHAT’S NEXT?

Considering the remarkable increase in the world’s population over the last century, it is imperative to contemplate the measures taken to accommodate this surge.

Statistical data indicates that societies have been successful in constructing enough dwellings to offset the quantitative shortfall. The current challenge, however, revolves around enhancing the quality of the existing housing stock. The developing nations of the Global South are experiencing a significant rise in population growth, and it is crucial to explore the potential of housing to reshape the urban landscape in order to create better cities.

This project by the Housing and Urban Development Division of the IDB is an invitation to make strategic use of lessons learned, to imagine new solutions and possibilities, and to bring a renewed agenda to housing and urban development in the years to come.
